The Proverbs 31 woman was an amazing mom and wife, AND also a successful business woman!
In case you have not ever heard of Proverbs or 31 or Proverbs 31, it is a chapter in the Bible and it says this.
An excellent wife who can find?
She is far more precious than jewels.
The heart of her husband trusts in her,
and he will have no lack of gain.
She does him good, and not harm,
all the days of her life.
She seeks wool and flax,
and works with willing hands.
She is like the ships of the merchant;
she brings her food from afar.
She rises while it is yet night
and provides food for her household
and portions for her maidens.
She considers a field and buys it;
with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard.
She dresses herself with strength
and makes her arms strong.
She perceives that her merchandise is profitable.
Her lamp does not go out at night.
She puts her hands to the distaff,
and her hands hold the spindle.
She opens her hand to the poor
and reaches out her hands to the needy.
She is not afraid of snow for her household,
for all her household are clothed in scarlet.
She makes bed coverings for herself;
her clothing is fine linen and purple.
Her husband is known in the gates
when he sits among the elders of the land.
She makes linen garments and sells them;
she delivers sashes to the merchant.
Strength and dignity are her clothing,
and she laughs at the time to come.
She opens her mouth with wisdom,
and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.
She looks well to the ways of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
Her children rise up and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
“Many women have done excellently,
but you surpass them all.”
Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain,
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
Give her of the fruit of her hands,
and let her works praise her in the gates.
There is an art to balancing work, ministry & family.
Create a system.
What are you going to stand for.
What is your mission statement?
Create a core value system first.
"The scariest thing in our lives should not be failure, it should be succeeding at things that don't really
matter." - Karen Stott
*How true is this! FOCUS!*
Create core values.
Some examples of her core values are as follows: (summary)
(God first - given)
1. Family First
2. Service Before Self
3. Can I do it with Excellence
4. Our gifts are for giving
5. Triumph trumps regretting
6. Integrity in all we do
What is my why?
Why am I blogging? Why am I making this into something?
When you have core values you can say no to things that don't fit within it.
Defining our core values gives us purpose.
Listen to the One true voice.
No phone when kids are home, no computer when kids are home.
Scheduled work hours.
Our business should work for us, not against us.
Why are you in business? To be creative? Make money? If so, how much is enough.
How are you going to spend your time?
Choose certain hours and stick with it
Maybe Thursday is date with friends day, Tuesdays a day to re-fuel whatever that means to you.
Have a culture around the type of person you're doing things for. (example of Apple and how they made their community)
Defining your values helps attract people to you. Your clients become a loyal band of followers, simply based off your values.
What do I really stand for and what do I really believe?
Being honest and vulnerable, you will find people who feel the same way.
Build a business from your core.
Debt is the biggest hinderance on availability. Living a life of freedom so we can be able to do what God asks us to do.
*Want to build this site and business. My goal this summer is to make enough income to fund my newfound love of planting flowers!*
Create a visionary team whether it is a board of directors, your friends. A group of people you want to do life with who can help motivate you and keep you on track.
Reach out to people in your life that you love.
(End of notes).
Thank you Karen Stott for allowing me to share with all these lovely readers. I know there is at least one reader out there who is truly soaking in this information.
I can't wait to make my mission statement, set goals, create a visionary team with people I love and want to do life with, launch new products, build a super fast loading website with purpose. Begin being creative again, sharing again, building community again.
Cheers to 2014 everyone. To new beginnings. To sharing passion. To forming community. To blogging. To sharing whatever is lovely. To home projects. To love. Life. Joy. Wonder. To mothering, coffee drinking, gardening, songwriting, drumming, homeschooling. To playing outside, living life to the full, to starting from nothing and forming something. Cheers. Lets be in this together! xx
